Worried About Your Laundry Equipment Sitting Idle During Lockdown?

As our company continues to evolve and evaluate the unprecedented scenario of Equipment Managers being cooped up away from their facilities, we’d like to address the concern of laundry equipment sitting idle for an extended period of time.

In our experience, the main issue with laundry machinery sitting idle has to do with the water valves. Sometimes, valves might stick open causing water to continuously run through, other times they lose their ability to open at all. Our suggestion is to run said machinery at least once every two weeks. We recommend running your machinery on the ‘loops/personal wash’ setting since this cycle will use warm water and will also trigger most of the pumps in order to keep them from staying idle. Running these cycles on empty once every other week will not damage the bearings.

With your machines being used sparingly for a month (possibly longer), you might accumulate calcium and rust in your facilities piping. Once you return to the facility with some regularity, we recommend running each machine 2 to 4 times in order to flush the water pipes.

Once you begin doing laundry again regularly (hopefully soon), you might notice your wash times are a bit longer. This occurs as a result of sand or sediment being flushed through the plumbing to the washer. If this is the case, you may need to clean your screen filter. Turn off your water, locate the screen filter (located where the water hose attaches to the washer), disconnect the hose from the washer, pull out the inline filter, and clean it.

We also recommend running your dryers once every other week. This will help to make sure that no dust builds up in the igniters or the burners. Run your dryers for 5 to 10 minutes on medium or high heat.

Once travel restrictions have been lifted, our team will work diligently to visit each of our customers in order to ensure that your facilities are “all systems go” for the Summer/Fall season.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Sales Director and we’d be happy to assist.

We wish you, your staff, your family, and friends the absolute best.

Thank you,

The ISS Team
